Florida - After the Silence

I have consciously disconnected myself from blogging these past few weeks. I didn't know what to say, or how to say it. I felt uninspired. Mostly because I feel like the internet has become so inundated with regurgitated media, it feels like nothing is special, new or safe. I think it's so important to maintain a community in blogging, but when I notice too much the negative side of having ideas stolen, not giving proper credit, cattiness and whatnot, I get super bummed out. So, I took a step back, let Maggie Pate take the reigns and now I'm happy to be back. I didn't blog about my 52 Pies 2/52 pie, so here is a link to the photo on Instagram. It was an ugly pie, a red berry sweet wine pie, and I rushed through it. But, I did it, so that counts right. And it was delicious. Have yall been working on your 52 week projects?

So, now that I am back from Florida, after a really lovely trip, I am going to make time in my day to be more present in this space. I always say that, but I really miss coming here, sharing parts of my life, and connecting with new friends on a daily basis. Hold me to it! We traveled to south Florida for my Gran's 90th birthday. She is an incredible human being, and we need to visit her more! Our trip was nice and we did some touristy stuff like go to the zoo, and skate park and somehow managed to not go to the beach! We had a fancy dinner the night of her birthday, and we visited my grandpa for an afternoon. More on that later. Here's some photos. Not as many as I would have liked to take, of course.

My gran's house is exactly like it was the last time I visited, 12 years ago. And it has been exactly the same for 35 years. Even the place mats at the table are the same. My grandparents have impeccable taste. It was fun showing Doug pieces of my childhood. All I have wanted for years now if for Doug to meet all my grandparents, and now that he has, my life is complete. Just kidding, but it really was a huge deal to me. Like I said, we also went to the zoo, and it was so much fun. There was almost nobody there, and we got to get up close and personal with the animals. We also decided to become vegetarians again that day, which has been on both our minds.

I also got a chance to make my gran's favorite cookies, coconut macaroons. Even my dad, the hater of all that is sweet, ate them and loved them. I guess I get my salty addiction from him.

We spent the last day in Ft. Lauderdale, driving around and cursing the big city and it's terrible traffic. Got to the airport 5 hours early because we couldn't bare to waste anymore time driving around, and then came home. It was a quick trip, and I am so happy we have been afforded the lifestyle in which we can take a few days off to go spend a very special day with my gran + family. I also got to spend time with my brother, and that was so great! I missed my kiddos and am glad to be home, and back to work. We have lots of new stuff in the shop now, and more to come! It's going to be a great year!

How was your weekend?

  2. I wish my boyfriend could meet my grandparents but I don't see us making a trip to Poland anytime soon, haha. I'm glad you're back, I missed you! I love when bloggers take breaks, its good for everyone to just take a few days where they don't look at their blog. I expecially like when they don't say their sorry. I hate seeing 'I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while' Don't be sorry! You were out enjoying life! You took a break. It's cool. :]

  3. crazy i haven't seen you since you've been home, but i am glad to read that your trip was inspiring and comforting. we all know there is stealing of intellectual property on multiple spheres...it just becomes apparent in blogging because it is easily tracked. i know who the innovator is and the readers of this blog do too. love you, beca! put those blinders on and do your own thing.

  8. It's always good to take a break when are feeling uninspired. I do it all of the time, and it always feels so good to be back. Good to see you back in action, girlfriend!

Your photos are beautiful and I just love the one of your Gran sitting on the couch. Beautiful lighting, beautiful people.

And as for going vegetarian, I can't wait to watch your journey. Oh! and the recipes, which I assume you will post. haha! I know it's not vegan, but I think you'll enjoy getting really creative with fruits and veges (since you are the master of the pastry!)
