Chief Print

Our friends Jeffrey and Mikiko opened up their amazing print shop in Philly recently. Please check out their website for ordering information.

Chief Print.

Here are some photos from Doug's solo show where Jeff did the printing and Mikiko took care of the cuteness.

ps. I didn't finish any of my goals today. Oh well!

Spooning is Swooning and Swell. <---click here to swoon over a new item. mmm...

Limbo

I am feeling frustrated today. There is just too much in limbo and it is incredibly stressful.

I don't want to leave the house today. I want to clean and refill the shop with lovely delightful things, and I want to start feeling more calm. Take deep breaths and relax. It's hard to not be nervous though, we are waiting to hear when they want Doug to come out and start working (waiting for background check and drug test results, but no worries on both of those) and I found the perfect house. The landlord is SO nice, she loves dogs, she has a really good attitude, but she wants to send me more photos before I can send her a check...I don't want to wait. Also, we need to figure out how much a truck is going to cost (only $120, not bad at all,) pay bills, etc etc etc.

At least I slept super good last night, we had an amazing dinner (pasta-less pasta made from sliced squash, grilled mushrooms and turkey meatballs...mmm...) and I have goals set for the day.
-finish laundry
-deep clean living room
-relist items in new store
-go to skate shop to get more boxes
-finish cleaning kitchen and dog room

Seems like a reasonable set of goals. Now to get motivated to actually do them.

(at least I sold my TV and DVD player yesterday...two less things I need to pack up...) Time to get going!

Sold the Yard

5:30am - woke up, started pulling out boxes and unloading the magical contents onto tables, chairs, the ground, everywhere! It was gorgeous out, a little drizzle, breezy and cool.
5:45am - People start arriving. Oh lord. Too early for human interaction, much less people who are restless and anxious to get good deals on my beloved items. I tell them I'm not ready but they are welcome to hang around until I am. Why are people so grumpy??
6:30am - It is hot already, but not too bad. Have already had 30 people stop by, made $70 and needed coffee, bad.
7:45am - Doug woke up and was immediately inundated with questions about motorcycle parts. He left to grab us coffee and bagels and I am alone with the stream of people once again.
9:00am - Charlie kept me company, then Monster. Then out friend Bullet and his parents show up. It is a Boston Terrier party! We have some lovely friends show up, both new and old, and we make some pretty good sales.
10:45am - I was ready to close up but we got another rush of people and made some good sales. All the roommates are awake by then, and I am never lonely, plus there really was a constant stream of lovelies.
12:40 - Packed up. Made a fair amount of cash. Will be helpful. Maybe the pet deposit at our new house!!

I am exhausted, need a shower and a nap. Then maybe we'll go see a funny movie!

Cheesecake and Geodes.

Today has been super wonderful. I ate breakfast (coffee, yogurt and fresh blueberries) with Doug before he went to work, got dressed and ran to the post office to ship the cutest Popeye belt buckle in the world to a lovely lady in Washington. After that, I drove all the way across town to pick up the portraits for the show tomorrow. They look amazing. I have kind of taken myself out of the planning of his showing since it goes along with this benefit event.

Also, my little friend Stephanie (who works with Doug at the school) asked me to bake a cheesecake for her boyfriend's birthday. It looks really pretty already and smells good. I'll take photos when it is out of the oven.

When I was at the post, I got a package from my Dad. It is a big box full of my ROCK COLLECTION from when I was a kid and some other treasures. I want to take some photos when I get all of the treasures out of the box, but I haven't even hit the middle of the box yet, and as much as I would like to sit for hours procrastinating, I need to pack! Check back for photos.

The best part is a handwritten letter from my Grandpa with a list of all the stones and rocks, and a note to my Dad from when I was 5 years old. I want to frame it! I will frame it, when we get our store front. A shadow box for my grandpa's treasures. I'm a little teary still.

Okay, I have a kitchen to clean and a dog room to pack up.

Goals

We got the news! Doug got the job and we are out of this place IN 3 WEEKS!!! Hell or high water, here we come San Diego. Although it isn't as easy as you may think...I practically have an entire vintage store to either sell or move..(preferably sell) and 3 bedrooms full of life that need to be carefully packed, gifted or tossed. I am a frenzied mess. Not only that, but I helped Doug fill out his 33 page (YES 33 PAGE) new hire packet, have a show on Friday to set up, a yard sale on Sunday to prepare for and a sick cat. Mokiki is not feeling so great. He has a infection/abscess on his face and it looks pretty painful. He is spending a lot of time on the kitchen counter, sleeping and eating. That's good, the eating part, since last time he got hurt, he wouldn't eat anything.

In the vein of a couple sweet little blogs I often lurk, setting a few goals seems to be the hip thing to do. So here goes. My goals for the remainder of 2010.

Goals:
one. stop eating out! save money, eat better.
two. make it out to SD alive, with enough money, our sanity and love intact, and a new home waiting for us.
three. be a better dog-mom. spend more time taking the dogs out and socializing them with their new beachbum buddies (and milton of course!! our SD dog-cousin)
four. don't be stressed by change. don't be jealous. don't be so incredibly awkward. (easily said than done...)
five. work on shipping methods and branding my shop. I want to have stickers, tissue paper and packaging that are all in sync with our goals of using recycled materials.
six. the ultimate goal. opening up a store front in SD with my love, our best friend and his love. perfect.
seven,. be the best partner I can be. enjoy my life with the man I love. Not to be super cheesy, but I am so happy, I need to let it grow and live it.

That's all for now, kind of vague. I'm sure I'll come up with more every day!

Deliveries on 2 Wheels

It has been a few days. Been working on the house and spending some more time on the shop, which has been so weird without my computer. Doug has surrendered his for the past week, but today at 3 mine comes home!!

I have decided to only ride my bike to the post office today and if I go 6 times a week to make shipments, then I will get in 12 miles a week, easily. If I also go to the bank or the store, like today, that's an extra couple of miles a day. I want to stop driving so much.

Broken Computer

I've been in a little bit of a funk the past few days, my computer broke and is at the computer hospital right now. I won't get it back until Friday, at the earliest! I've been using Doug's but I hate to use it all the time when I know he needs it. Frustrating, but I've been staying busy.

Yesterday I made Amish White Bread with Italian Herbs and Garlic. It came out so good. I think I am going to try cinnamon today for french toast. Yum!

I have to run to the post office to ship some Raybans to London, drop off the rest of the prints to get framed and bring the cable box back to Cox to get some money back and stop paying so much a month for cable. I also want to get the dogs some soup bones for being so good lately, and hopefully sell our beautiful green velvet couch today. Whew.

Here we go.

Beginning to the Beginning

I started packing yesterday. I know, we still have a few months until the move, but I DO NOT want to rushed. I want to minimize the things around us that will keep us planted, I want to get rid of so much.

I'll probably have a huge sale before we move, in the store, and in the yard. We are going to have a bike parts sale in a few weeks and see how much of that we can part with.

I just threw a pile of dirty clothes and blankets on the kitchen floor on the way to the laundry room and instantly Charlie plopped down and fell asleep. Just a little hitch in my plan to do a lot of laundry today. He just looks too cute to disturb.

I am feeling the stress coming on and am trying to subside it with keeping busy and just focusing on the future.

Back to work.

Calling all collectors of vintage photographs.

My massive collection is now for sale and will be slowly but surely listed on Tumbleweeds.

Clean House

Everything is shipped, delivered, photographed, listed, posted, paid for, etc, etc, etc. Now I don't know what to do with my day except clean. Doug has a sinus infection and it's miserable, as you could imagine, so he's home for the day, which I always love. Of course, although I wish it wasn't because he's sick.

I do have some paintings I want to finish. I can decide whether I want to hold on to them and try to put a show together. I've been working around an idea to have a collaborative show of miniature artwork called "Little Ladies" all of portraits of women and girls. That may be fun. I know Doug has some great portraits that we can print small size.

My birthday is tomorrow. Excited for that at least and a million other things!

Treasure Keeper necklaces.

finally. Available in our etsy shop, Tumbleweeds.

Busy day! So much to do. Cross your fingers for me.

Upcycled

A new word that I think I will start using.

I like repurposed, but I suppose if I am taking something that would be thrown away, and making something better (higher quality, more expensive, better?) then it would be upcycled.

Okay then. xo.

Monday Funday

I spent a lot of today (besides sitting in the waiting room at the doctors for an hour just so they could weigh me and take my blood pressure) working on new projects.

I choose the 12 photos we are going to print for the show. They are AMAZING! Sneak peek....

I am really excited to go to the print press tomorrow. I'm watching little Tucson tomorrow for a few hours while Stacey is at work and maybe I can get her to model some of the new necklaces for the shop.

Oh, we made time capsule necklaces today with amazing vintage watch parts. We started taking photos but the mosquitoes were eating us alive, so maybe I can list them tomorrow. We'll see. We have a shoot at 7 tomorrow night for Dick, Miriam and their brood. It's going to be fun, they have a big family.

Oh, and by the way I am now obsessed with Closet Cooking and have been drifting through their archive all day. I am definitely making cinnamon bread tonight after dinner.

Relax

The photo shoot went really well, there are a lot of amazing animals up for adoption and it was hard for us to leave without another animal.

Indentured Servant

We found a little plastic box full of treasures yesterday at the swap meet.

At the bottom was two pairs of dentures.

I have no idea what to do with them, I stuck the top of one in Charlie's mouth and he looked ridiculous. He hid from me for an hour.

I also found some other cute stuff. A Japanese wooden book with a secret drawer, a little Japanese porcelain bird and a talking viewfinder from the 50s. It was too hot to really hunt, so we just left and went to breakfast.

Tuesday, i am going to stop by the skate shop and pick up boxes and start packing up the stuff we are keeping. At this rate, we can move in October for sure.

Off to a photo shoot at Hope Animal Shelter. We are donating some prints to a benefit to help them raise some money

Mild Success

Today has been full of small successes. Finally found a home for this SX70 Polaroid Camera that I have been attempting to rehome for some time.

I definitely sold it for much less than it is worth, but that is the way of things, it will be easier when I am not just online, people will be able to handle my treasures and see them in real life and feel their magic. Dreams. Daydreaming.

I also made bacon chocolate chip cookies which were a huge success (Doug and his students loved them, our roommates loved them too) I baked them in these rad Wilton heart shaped tins, and they came out kind of heart shaped the first time, and very heart shaped on the second batch. As soon as I close the laptop, I am cutting up pineapple and dipping skewers in melted chocolate and ice cream sprinkles and freezing them. That is the plan at least.

The boys have been keeping me company today, I wish I had some more beds in the kitchen (my makeshift office for now) for them to chill on, but they seem to like the tile too. Oh you know, dogs.

xo.

A solution??

I saved all of these great old books I just couldn't part with after Monster used them as chew toys, and realized they are perfect for wrapping small packages in.

Sigh of relief, I am catching on quickly.

I'm making peanut thai stirfry for Doug's lunch so the house smells delicious, and then its off to the bank, then the post office. Grammy called yesterday and told me she sent me a birthday card, which always brings the kid out in me!

Some new items up, also.

Never is Still Forever

I wore one the shirts from the show today. I love it, and I wish I could get more of them out there...I'm still so very proud of my love for having his first solo show and I can't wait for the next one.

I need a no-computer rest of the evening, let's see if that actually happens.

xo

Shipping Wreck

I am not good at shipping. I am discovering this, but I am learning. Two days ago, I sold a little vintage owl perfume bottle for $2, and then charged the buyer $2 to ship it. Reasonable. However, when I went to ship it, I ended up paying $4.95 for shipping and packaging. Silly goose! I may not be good at math, but I know that doesn't add up!!

I am learning though. I DON'T want to buy cardboard boxes, there is enough cardboard in the world without me paying $$$ for more! So, that it is important to me to not make more waste, I want to reuse the boxes I already have or the boxes that will be thrown out otherwise.

This is all a learning process for the both of us, and in the near future, I won't be shipping our items in hodgepodge coca-cola boxes, and maybe make them cuter...cute and recycled! Yay!

Any suggestions???

The Curiosity Closet pt 1

I love watching Doug make seats, it is such a wonderful process. "Dog the Bounty Hunter" on TV, oreos and all the dogs curled up in one corner or another, and the rip rip rip of saddle making. It fills my heart up. This is his latest creation. THE SLEIPNIR. A beautiful horse name for a beautiful saddle.

This little life is good for us all.

The boys went skateboarding, and I'm finally getting to the front closet while the steak marinates. Who knows what kinds of treasures I'll discover.
